Eddie Adams took a photo. The communists in the American news media used it as propaganda to help their murderous buddies win the war, then go on to murder a few million more after American forces left. The American media wouldn’t publish the truth behind that photo because they knew that would shore up support for beating the communists, especially if they also told everyone that the Tet Offensive was dismal failure for them.
