So, the hallucinatory mushroom person was right, it was a bad idea.

Or, maybe the hallucinatory mushroom person, knowing Brad was already infected, influenced their perceptions so that they believed it was worse than it actually was. And is encouraging Alice to bring Margery in, in order to increase the infected population.

Either way, this appears to be mirroring the observations of the lab rats.

Now all we need to do is determine whether there is a single hallucinatory mushroom person who is present on a slightly different plane of existence, like the Idiot in the Batman: The Idiot Root comic arc, or if each infected individual has there own personal hallucinatory mushroom person, and they’re able to detect the infection in others on a subconscious level.
