I notice he didn’t invite any of the students to confirm the elements’ masses.
Either he’s a bad scientist who doesn’t like scrutiny interfering with his confirmation bias (which is probably why he’s got a teaching job, rather than a research job), or he might be hiding something related to the experiment, that would be given away if the masses were checked more thoroughly.
