Also, who’s piloting the sub? Someone we haven’t met yet?
On most ships, the helmsman is an enlisted man.
By enlisted, do you mean anyone without a commission, or anyone without rank?
Also, who pilots a boat? This sub, due to its small size and theatre of activities (coastal & inland waterways), is a boat not a ship.
Helmsman control crafts. In the USN, they are enlisted (no commission). Everyone except civs has a rank.
