And that was basically it.
Lucky that the Casey who was present in that universe was able to shink to another one and bitchslap its Buzz before the Darnkess could be unleashed there.
Still, I do wonder what happens to the person when their consciousness shinks away. Just like I’ve always wondered what happened to the person when Sam Beckett leapt out of them at the end of each episode of Quantum Leap.
In the case of Sam Beckett, the personality was shunted to his body at Quantum Leap, and would get sent back the next time he leaped – with the next consciousness taking over.
In the case of this storyline… I got the impression that the variations just shuffle along another iteration. Which means a Casey who may have had nothing to do with the whole mess got fed to the Darkness.
So I tossed a black rose into the abyss
and walked away into a stinging rain.
Is that a quote?
The only thing that comes close that I can find is a quote by Nietzsche: “…throw roses into the abyss and say: ‘here is my thanks to the monster who didn’t succeed in swallowing me alive.'”
Well it’s a self-serving quote from my own poem, but one that Lon, author of this comic, knows because he commented on it on Deviantart. So I dropped here as an inside joke to him because it seemed mildly appropriate to the end of the comic. 😉
