  1. Laser-Disc. I remember those. Even had one way back in the day…

      • Discs were expensive to produce, and very few were made. Players were big and bulky, and as expensive as early VCRs. DVD tech outpaced it and filled the niche.

  2. USA at mid-century had forty-eight states, and forty-eight stars on the flag. (Of course, here, they might have admitted states (same or different) at some other time.)
