For that story we also have a letter from REH explaining the kinky content, which he insists at great length was both included to please his editor (who often bought stories with whipping scenes) and anthropologically plausible. I wish I knew where the letter was published.

Brings back a lot of memories. ‘Specially going forward and looking through the original magazine. Had one of my favorite Clark Ashton Smith stories lead-off, one that never pops up in the “best of” collections.
