Bloodybits Podcast appearance: The Fly

It is with great pleasure that I can announce my appearance with Eddie the Axe and Tim Yobo discussing David Cronenberg’s The Fly (1986). If you’re a really long-time reader of this site, you’ll know that this movie has been a fave of mine for just about always, and we had a grand old time discussing it.

You can get this episode of The Bloodybits Podcast via this page at Eddie’s site or simply by searching for “Bloodybits” on your podcast app of choice. And don’t forget that I’m serious about my swag offer at the end of the ‘cast. If you have a postal address you’re comfortable sharing, I’ll send you some swag.

Exciting new podcast for people like us — Sequential Sex

Okay, so Johnny Jackhammer isn’t Vincent Price. He’s still pretty cool, though.

Sex in comics is as old as comics: there were Tijuana bibles circulating as much as a decade before Superman first put on a cape. But while by this point in history there is a great wealth of sex in comics –to which this blog makes its own humble contribution — the subject is, in my humble opinion, underexplored.

Self-described “open-minded kinkster and art lover” Johnny Jackhammer is aiming to make that situation better with a new podcast: the Sequential Sex Podcast. He has just posted his first episode and is promising a long sequence of reviews on what is likely to be a biweekly basis. Following a format derived from the old wedding rhyme of having “something old and something new, something borrowed and something blue,” he offering (at least) four reviews per podcast. Some classic comic book erotica (old), something out recently (new), something not yet available in paper — a webcomic, essentially (borrowed) and something that perhaps…pushes boundaries a little bit (blue). In this first episode Johnny reviews Larry Welz’s Cherry #9 (old), Gisèle Lagacé and Dave Zero’s Ménage à 3 (borrowed) and Hartmann’s Barbarian Chicks & Demons 5 (blue).

A part — no doubt a very small one — of Johnny Jackhammer’s library

Johnny has been kind enough to inform me that in upcoming episodes he’s hoping to do adult comics reviews on the following:

  • Small Favors: Girly Porno Comic Collection
  • Yellow Work, Hentai from Project H
  • Raw Media #1 from Avatar
  • Paying for It by Chester Brown
  • Chester 5000 xyv by Jess Fink
  • Smut Peddler from Iron Circus
  • Hustler Comix #1
  • Young Witches part 4 from Eros/Fantagraphics
  • Ironwood vol 1 and 2 by Bill Willingham
  • Food Porn

And I don’t doubt there will be many more to come.

Johnny’s reviews are well-informed, sex-positive, and clearly animated by a deep love the material with which he’s engaging. I am delighted that someone has decided to make a podcast of this kind and am eager to see Johnny succeed in his enterprise. So if you have the time and the interest, please do drop by and give him a listen. You can download the first episode here, find the podcast on iTunes, or search for it under “Sequential Sex” on your podcast app of choice.
