Panel 1: Something like a giant beach ball blowing up into the tank where Hiram dropped the capsule.

SFX – DETONATING CAPSULE (1): FWOOOM!

Translation (1): БУММ!

Panel 2: Hiram pointing to a projected slide. It shows a silhouette of a woman in profile. In the middle of the silhouette, mapped out in white space, is a representation of her digestive tract. A dotted line from her mouth down to her stomach indicates the path that the capsule has presumably taken. Hiram is pointing at a little capsule shown resting in her stomach.

CAPTION – UNSEEN INTERVIEWER (2): How is that supposed to help you capture the creature?

Translation (2): Как это поможет вам поймать чудовище?

Hiram (3): Simple, really. Our subject swallows the capsule at the start of the exercise.

Translation (3): Очень просто. Девушка проглатывает капсулу.

Panel 3: Hiram pointing to another projection. It is a large silhouette of the outline of the creature (or what the research team thinks it looks like anyway). There is a similar white space representing the creature’s digestive tract, and in the middle of that tract, another silhouette of a woman. There is also another dotted line showing the path that the woman took from the mouth of the siphon down to the creature’s stomach.

Hiram (4): In the course of her interaction with the creature, the subject will be ingested and then subsequently digested.

Translation (4): В процессе взаимодействия с животным, объект будет проглочен, а затем переварен.

Panel 4: Another projection, this time showing the creature, change will be detected by but with a FWOOM in the middle of its digestive tract.

Hiram (5): At a sufficiently advanced stage of the digestion of the subject, the chemical change will be detected by the sensors, setting off the explosive charge.

Translation (5): На достаточно поздней стадии переваривания объекта сенсоры зарегистрируют химические изменения и взорвут заряд.

Hiram (6): We believe the resulting explosion will both stun the creature and, by changing its buoyancy, force it to the surface, where it can be collected.

Translation (6): В результате вызванного взрыва животное будет оглушено и, вследствие изменения коэффициента плавучести, всплывет на поверхность, где мы сможем его подобрать.

FRED sits in the security booth as Joe exits the warehouse.


FRED


(over intercom)


Good night, Dr. Tucker.


Joe waves and then walks away into the dark. Fred waits a few second then pulls a little two-way radio off his belt and says something in a fake foreign language.


TERRORIST #1, wearing an oversize black hoodie, jogs up out of the dark. Fred buzzes him in the main entrance.

Panel 1: HIRAM WORTHINGLOCK (“Hiram”), a rat-faced little man who wears thick round spectacles and a labcoat, sitting on a stool in another laboratory. He is being interviewed.

SUBTITLE (1): Hiram Worthinglock, assistant to Professor Turpentine.

Hiram (2): Of course, we have our bait, but you can’t just stick a hook through this bait, heh heh.

Panel 2: Close-up of Hiram’s hand, in which he is holding up something that looks like a Tylenol capsule at the end of a pair of tweezers.

CAPTION – HIRAM NARRATING (4): This capsule contains nano-sensors and a tiny but very powerful explosive charge wrapped in ultra-strong membranes.

Panel 3: Hiram standing over an open cylindrical metal tank about one meter across and one meter high. He has just dropped the capsule in the tank, as can be seen by a small drop of fluid rebounding back up and some ripples around it.

SFX – CAPSULE DROPPED INTO THE WATER (5): ploop!

Translation (5): плюх!

Hiram (6): The capsule’s sensors are programmed to be sensitive to chemical changes in the capsule’s environment, as we can see by dropping it in this tank…

Panel 4: Hiram pouring a flask of some sort of liquid into the tank.

On the television, Harry is standing next to THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.


THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES


…for years, countless families here in America and around the world have had to suffer the heartbreak of seeing a loved one fade away from dementia. Thanks to the work of Dr. Lal and his colleagues at Oikos Galenou LLC those dark days are now in the past.


On T.V., the President takes the Presidential Medal of Freedom from an official.


THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES


It is therefore my great honor to convey on you the Presidential Medal of Freedom in recognition of your service to your country and humanity.


On T.V., he President places the ribbon holding the medal around Harry’s neck and fastens it in the back.


On T.V., at the White House, the audience applauds.


TOOZIE

SHERMAN


Dementia runs in my family, so yeah, it does.


TOOZIE


There are some really weird rumors about Oikos Galenou LLC.


SHERMAN

They sit.


JOAN


You…you seem so much better.


DAN


It’s this new medicine they have.


(taps his temple with his forefinger)


It’s helping my memory come back.


JOAN

DAN


I woke up this morning, and I was remembering. I was thinking how a fall day like this one was so much like your first day in kindergarten. Do you remember that? Your mother and I took you there together and we stood in line with all the other parents. You had a backpack full of things almost as big as you were. Many of the other children were crying but you were very brave. And I remember telling you “You must respect your teacher, Joanie.” And do you remember what you said in reply?


JOAN


(incredulous)


No.


DAN


You said “I bet I know lots of things she doesn’t.” Your mother and I almost couldn’t stop laughing.


Joan begins to cry. She suddenly reaches out and embraces Dan.


JOAN


Oh, Daddy. You’re better…


DAN


I think lots of things are going to be better from now on.
