Colleen’s difficult position is a classic for distressed damsels in mad science situations, with a long pulp art tradition behind it.

And, being a good patriot, Vanessa goes to do her duty.

Doesn’t every girl dream at least sometimes of being a sexy superspy?

Vanessa almost has the right idea.

Strangeays inserts an electronic "bug" in Vanessa's ear.

The “bug” was inspired in part by old-style vacuum tubes which, when looked at with erotic mad science eyes, are quite provocative objects.

“Erotic terrorist” isn’t a concept that reaches all that far for many people, although there is always this album cover (?).

Not very promising. Found at The Blog of Regrettable Music.

Something strange is always going on down in the bowels of the State Home for Wayward Girls.

The door to the mysterious chamber seen on this splash page is a “pressure door,” taken from naval usage. Why it is necessary will be seen a few pages hence. Here I would just like to note that there’s no unbridgeable gap between the concept of “submarine” and “erotic.”

You just knew that Strangeays had this as a menu item.

I especially like Panel Three here, an opportunity to play with the “sexy assassin” trope.

A thug in service of the state, a pretty girl bound an peril. Save for the fact that what Colleen is undergoing is not technically torture, it seems we have a classic set of tropes in play here.

Strangeways is acting out his own pulpy trope here, naturally.
