Silverghost Mad Science Pulp Gallery added to blogroll

If you look in the links bar off to the right, you’ll find a new link to a gallery of mad science pulp art at Silverghost, which contains some very fine examples of the genre.

Like this, for instance.  Mad scientist, pretty girl apparently dissolving in a vat.  Could this be an early example of the Apsinthion Protocol meme?

Chasing the provenance on this one was a little tricky.  It seems to have been the cover art for a pulp magazine called Fantastic Adventures, which according to Wikipedia was published between 1939 and 1953.

I was able to find a scan of the cover online, but it’s a thumbnail so unfortunately I can’s read the date.  However cross-checking the novel The Involuntary Immortals on Rog Phillips’s entry in the Internet Science Fiction Database would seem to place the publication date in 1949.  I would welcome additional provenance in the comments.

Update follies

My apologies to anyone who has noticed Erotic Mad Science looking a little…funny over the past few hours.  In response to various dire warnings from the WordPress people about necessary security updates I’ve updated my version of WordPress, which went smoothly, except that it broke a bunch of stuff that with how posts are formatted that I’m now running around trying to fix.  I’ve contained the most irritating forms of damage and will be working on the rest…kindly bear with me.

They went seaward

It turns out that the meme of people striding naked into the sea to transform into sea creatures, one so lovingly illustrated for Erotic Mad Science by Bokuman recently, has an artistic and perhaps even a mythological antecedent.

Found recently at Janitor of Lunacy.  The artist is Edwin Willard Deming (1860-1942) about whom I haven’t been able to learn a great deal (there’s a short biography here and a notice from The New York Times in 1914 about one of his exhibitions here), except that he achieved notice as a painter of scenes of Native American life, which makes me think that perhaps this painting is an illustration of a Native American story or myth, though my sadly-limited knowledge of such things means that this can be only conjecture on my part.  (If anyone knows better, please write in.)

For my part, the painting really does make me want to head for a seashore somewhere…

Shrinking Stacey: Page Two

In which Stacey displays questionable judgment…

If Gnosis College has a Human Subjects Research Committee, they must be really tearing their hair out on a regular basis. The conclusion tomorrow!

Shrinking Stacey: Page One

Over a year ago I essayed my very first short comix script over at ErosBlog, and repeated the attempt here at Erotic Mad Science.  It was a little “shrinking woman” mad science story.  And now it’s finally no longer just words on a screen.  Thanks to the diligent work of Lucy Fidelis, a versatile Brazilian artist with a knack for visual storytelling, the script is now an actual short comic, and I couldn’t be happier.  A very short comic, but you have to crawl before you can walk.

Here is the first page of three.

If you’re interested in Lucy’s fetching illustration, I encourage you to visit her DeviantArt profile here and see her portfolio here, and I do believe she is actively taking commissions.

KristinF amazing madlab

Browsing over at Renderotica recently, seeking out clever folks using technology to make their own, I can across a very classy madlab by artist KristinF, which I present here with the kind permission of the artist.

(Click on the image to see larger.)  This is mad science not playing around.  Not only do we have someone strapped to a table about to undergo…well, I’m not really sure what but I’m sure it will really advance human knowledge — and two tube girls.  Or perhaps one tube girl and one tube futanari, which would be even cooler.  Someone’s been doing her homework!

To me, this is a triumph of the CG artist at work.  You can see more of KristinF’s work either at Renderotica or by looking here at EroticIllusions, which I strongly encourage if you’re a fan of this site.

Merry Xmas with a Nanetta & Moira pinup

We’d be remiss here at Erotic Mad Science if we didn’t do our bit to put the “X” into “Xmas,” and happily we have the help of the talented Brazilian artist Roe Mesquita to help us out, channeling warm holiday greetings of Nanetta Rector and Moira Weir from whatever plane of existence they’ve ascended to. And we know it’s mad science, because they’re brought their labcoats (though happily nothing else).

You can see Roe’s DeviantArt site here and a an artist’s portfolio here, which I encourage your to do, of course.

Happy Holidays to all!

Cambrian III: Acceptance

So Cambrian reaches the culmination of its plot when Hot Lady Scientist, having had enough of being molested by sex machines and otherwise subject to abuse, transforms herself into some sort of spiky blond valkyrie-demon, breaks out of her bonds, slays Junior Mad Scientist, forces Bad Girl to flee into a conveniently-large airshaft, and then liberates Nerdy Assistant, who had been chained up and subjected to abuse by Bad Girl for some reason.

There is then a meeting of the minds.

Hot lady scientist

This is what I am. Can you still love me?

Nerdy Assistant stands up, then kneels down, grasping the spike growing out of Hot Lady Scientist’s crotch. He points the spike at his own throat, and speaks.

Nerdy Assistant

If it’s destined….

The surprisingly understated scene that follows is an exterior view of what we know (from its having been established earlier) of Hot Lady Scientist’s laboratory building. It would seem that we are being invited to write our own ending in our imaginations here, but at the same time it seems like a moment of acceptance, of embracing what you are (or someone else is) even if that seems monstrous.

And that, dear readers, is what puts Cambrian just a little bit beyond just another tits ‘n tentacles story, at least for me.

Cambrian II: Sex machine

So the plot of Cambrian rolls forward something like this:  Hot Lady Scientist answers a summons from her former boss Senior Mad Scientist, who has been kicked out by the scientific establishment for human cloning experiments.  Hot Lady Scientist arrives at Senior Mad Scientist’s isolated laboratory to find that he has been involved in experiments “accelerating” evolution, promptly finds herself stripped and bound by Senior Mad Scientist, who then transforms into your standard-issue tentacle beast and…well people who read this blog don’t really need to be told what happens next.

Hot Lady Scientist escapes from Senior Mad Scientist’s laboratory (carried by Nerdy Assistant, who is desperately in love with her).  The “Cambrian” transformation spreads by sexual contact, from Hot Lady Scientist to her boyfriend Junior Mad Scientist, and thence to Bad Girl.  Unsurprisingly, both Junior Mad Scientist and Bad Girl are thrilled at their new posthuman status, and are soon in cahoots.

Eventually Hot Lady Scientist ends up being abducted by Junior Mad Scientist and tormented with sex machines, which makes for some decent mad-lab images.  This…

and this…

…and this.

Not too bad, although the idiosyncratic reason for me to actually like this anime comes tomorrow.
