The Bachelor Machine

It is with great pleasure that I can report that Circlet Press has now made available a new e-book version of M. Christian‘s short story collection, The Bachelor Machine. For thaumatophiles, it is a do-not-miss.

The new edition consists of nineteen stories and two appendicies from the 2003 on-dead-tree edition plus a new foreword.

Many — though not all — of the stories are set in a gritty cyberpunk world, one which at times makes even the imagination of William Gibson look somewhat tender by comparison.  Radical forms of body modification, virtual realities, biohacking, and so on are explored in all sorts of permutations of gender and practice, or beyond gnder and practice.  Some are just exquisite.  The backer’s tale “Heartbraker” plays like X-rated version of Ghost in the Shell.  I hope M. Christian will forgive me for offering a taste:

Their cunt was on fire—molten, their lips and their clit steamed in a thumping beat as both their bodies moved over each other. Nipples stroked across soft breasts, bellies glided on a sheen of fine synthetic sweat.Their cunt was rapidly melting in a pool of vibrating wine, a tub of jiggling butter. They weren’t just hot or steaming—they were burning in their roaring lust, combining in a echoing, reverberating bonfire. Linked, each hardwired into the other’s genitals, mixed and matched, they surged and merged.

(And if, after reading that, you don’t want to run out and buy this book right now, I should wonder what you’re doing on this blog.)

It’s not all cyberpunk.  “The New Motor” has a superficially steampunk feel, but what it actually seems to do is take a cyberpunk erotic sensibility and project it backwards into a real nineteenth-century America that was full of eccentric and goofy spiritual movements, with rather delightful results.  And there is dark political satire here as well, in a story like “Guernica,” in which closeted BDSM enthusiasts derive pleasure in parodying the grim, oppressive police state in which they live.

These are often edgy stories:  I am full of admiration for M. Christian’s willingness to “go there,” wherever “there” is.  Consider “Everything But the Smell of Lilies,” a story of a sex worker who has been modified so that she can be killed by clients who get off on that sort of thing has to be one of the squickiest things I’ve ever read…and read, and read, and read again.  So fair warning, these are not stories for the squeamish or the easily offended.   And they’re challenging in other ways as well, full of twists and non-conventional narrative structures and devices.  This is erotica for advanced readers.

And yet for all the edginess, for the cyberpunk grit and the sense of a brutal world, there are touching moments, bits of tenderness in the oddest of places.  The final story, “The Bachelor Machine,” about an encounter with a deteriorating, way-past-her-prime sexbot contains a twist that left me with a catch in my throat.  As usual, I won’t give it away.  But I shall urge you to read it yourself.  You can order a copy from Circlet here.

The Velvet View added to siteroll

It has been there for a while, but if you haven’t so far you should really drop in and pay The Velvet View a visit.  It’s a general blog guilt around images of erotic (or at least, sensual) art, but it’s worthy of special attention because site creator Alvaro has a real eye for the exquisite.

And yes, there’s some stuff there that’s definitely appealing to the thaumatophileAn example:

Not an image that hits you over the head with its eroticism…but one you can fall into with its level of detail.  It’s “Marionette,” by DA artist dcwj.

Dynawash, alternate version

A few weeks back I was delighted to present a live-action/3D art hybtid image, in which the lovely Asian Dyna provided the live model and talented artist (and frequent Erotic Mad Science contributor) Niceman provided the 3D setting. It is a privilege and a pleasure to be able to present another such image — same theme, different take:.

The image is a variant of a contest image created by Niceman as part of the 2011 Alien Invasion Contest (!) over at Renderotica, and if you have a Renderotica login (or want to create one, which is well worth the effort) you can see Niceman’s contest image here.

The “Art of Faustie” added to siteroll

Those of you who’ve been following the interesting…interactions between Howard and Moira as The Apsinthion Protocol posts out might note that I’ve got a bit of a taste for monster sex, and if you do to you would do well to follow the new link to “The Art of Faustie” now added to the EroticMadScience siteroll.

Faustie — no, not a kid sister or a mini-me to your humble blogger, the tasteful choices in nom d’Internet being but coincidence — is an artist and animator who really knows how to get things done when it comes to monster sex. A (ahem) taste, called “Explorer.” (Click for full size.)

Dungeon tentacle sex sometimes just sneaks up on you...

One could see this as an object lesson in why when dungeon-delving it is wise to wear pants, but I digress. If this is your cup of goo, by all means head on over, and visit Faustie over at DeviantArt as well. Not only will you find tons of cool art, but you will also find a valuable illustrated document called The Modern Woman’s Strategies for Sex Zombie Survival.

Hey, you never know when that might be useful.

Dynawash by Niceman and Asian Dyna

Every now and then it just doesn’t seem like enough to imagine mad science.  You want to do it, even if just a bit.

So, in between scenes in The Apsinthion Protocol a little extra in the form of a mad artistic experiment that combines two different techniques for making erotic mad science images.  Lovely Asian Dyna, who has spontaneously created her own live-action mad science images in the recent past, graciously modeled for an image, and was then transported into the world of my own mad-science imagination through the 3D art wizardry of Niceman, who has created all sorts of remarkable imagery for this site.

The result was truly striking.

The specific Gnosis College universe reference is to a story-within-a-story that I discuss in this post, (and more indirectly here) for those who are interested.

I think this was an eminently successful experiment, and am greatly pleased with Dyna and Nice’s work here.

Medusariffic Interview II

A tease, and then a comment, and then another tease.

One of the questions I posed to Drake at Medusariffic was “what of you work was your proudest of?”  He answered me thus:

Now it’s perhaps unfair of me to ask questions only without answering a few myself.  My own question to me would be, “What among Drake’s work gave you most joy?”

I think the answer up until now would lie in a sequence that lies within a hundreds-of-panels-long sequence Drake created as a Halloween special a few years back.  The premise behind the narrative is that a bunch of Drake’s cast of characters gets together for a big Halloween party.  Everyone dresses up in costume and then runs about playing a very literal version of freeze tag — get caught and you get turned into the statue.

One guest at the party is named Venus Red.  A newbie at the whole “turning people into statues” thing, she witnesses going-on from the shadows and finds herself…strangely attracted to the proceedings.

Perhaps inevitably there comes a moment of seduction.

Why was this moment so special for Faustus?  Well, I guess there is just this thing I have for a certain kind of moment of truth.  It’s the moment where the beautiful girl decides to take make the leap — defying all canons of prudence and normality — into the great erotic beyond.  I guess it shows up over and over in my own writing.

(Lots like I put in a little sneak preview of my own for Apsinthion Protocol there…)  Of course, Drake managed to top himself with a special moment for Faustus at the end of the forthcoming issue.

What is it?  Well, I’m not giving it away — you need to drop by starting on May 1 and see.

Medusariffic Interview I

I wish everyone would write and publish their own version of A Thaumatophile Manifesto.  Things like that show the world that we kinksters are for real.  We have stories and inner lives.  We have become what we have learned ourselves to be and we feel neither shame nor fear at what we are.  And they reach out to people who can be our friends:  as that most excellent blogger Furrygirl once put it:  “Fetishy porn is a tool for change. For reals! It gives the people not in urban kink bubbles a chance to see that other people are like them.”  My own experience of being interviewed at Atrocidades.net a little while back gave me an idea to try eliciting other folks’ stories but setting up interviews of my own.  I was very pleased to be able to do one of my own with mind-control comics creator Dr. Robo last month.  And this month I had the singular honor of being to pose my nosy questions to an artist I’ve long admired (and occasionally featured), whose commitment to a mad science-related A.S.F.R. fetish is a true wonder to behold.

This is Drake of Medusariffic, the 3D comics artist (primarily:  he started with live-action alters and recently has been moving into animations and small flash games) behind Medusariffic.  He took my interview questions and really ran with them, and the world is in for a treat as a result:  a whole issue of Medusariffic’s online comic, starring its pulchritudinous cast and illustrating a Drake-in-his-own-words interview.  Right on the first page Drake shows both that he knows how to deploy the tropes while writing zippy lines.

(Click for larger.) The whole thing will go up on May 1, but I’ll offer a few teasers up until then.

Tentacle Fantasia

Since this April has marked Moira Weir’s extended introduction to Howard the tentacle beast, I think it’s fair to declare that April is Tentacles Month here at Erotic Mad Science.  Since I would not want the 3D art community to feel that only traditional artists were getting in on the fun, I commissioned KristinF to create a tentacle fantasia, an imagined happening in the South Seas whence Howard presumably comes.

Kristin was commissioned to go wild.  She did.

The image reproduced in blog size cannot possibly do justice to the amount of fetishy detail that Kristin has worked in here, so by all means please click though to see the large image. It looks like an underwater expedition gone horribly wrong. Or horribly right. It depends on your perspective. I must note, however, that the fearsome shark in the upper-right hand part of the illustration has come to his own conclusion and appears to be fleeing the whole happening in terror.

You’ll never be disappointed asking Kristin to go wild.

Asian Dyna goes tube girl

If you’re even a little like me you’ll fondly remember that Asian Dyna produced a live-action alter of herself in a very mad-science situation and posted it up — an event which it was a joy to be able to cover here at Erotic Mad Science.

Well, she dunnit again, and this time even better, ‘cuz she when went and made a tube girl out of herself. Wow!  I won’t reproduce Dyna’s work here, not because it isn’t quite fine but because I want to encourage you to head over to her blog and have a look for yourself.  I will give you a little teasing hint, though, as to the image’s contents, for not only do we get Dyna looking fabulous as always, but we get some sort of mad figure as well.  Who he is I’m not sure, although I have a sneaking suspicion that he might be related to Lon Ryden’s Little Green Bastards, particularly in this incarnation.

So head on over and show Dyna some of the love she’s earned here:  while there, you might want to browse through some of her other fantasy live-alters.  And note also that she’s doing it as part of a series of requests, so perhaps you might want to ponder that as you do.  For my part I’m full of admiration, and not just because Dyna’s lovely to look at, but also (1) because she’s doing something I strongly encourage you all to try and (2) because she’s lovely to look at, her efforts most definitely count as hedonic philanthropy.

Now if I can just get Dyna interested live-actioning up something related to  the theme of the month here at Erotic Mad Science.  (Well, maybe that’s too much to ask, but a mad scientist can dream.)
